Appalachian Trail Thru-Hikers & Section Hikers

At both the Maine Roadhouse and the Stratton Motel we support A.T. thru-hikers and section hikers..  We are hikers ourselves and we are happy to do whatever we can to make your hike successful and more pleasant.

We gladly accept mail drops and we offer slackpacking options. We offer free shuttles to and from the local trailheads (ME HWY 27 in Stratton and ME HWY 4 in Rangeley).  Guests in the hostel, bunkroom (at Maine Roadhouse), and guests in private rooms are welcome to use our free high-speed internet and free long distance phones.  At both places we have plenty of room for you to sort out your supplies and mail drops and to take care of your gear.  We offer free laundry at the Maine Roadhouse and for hikers at the Stratton Motel, the laundromat is a short walk down the road, near the bank and post office.

Many thru-hikers have already stayed with us and enjoyed our old-fashioned hospitality and we look forward to having both section hikers, NOBO's and SOBO's take a short break from the trail at our hostels and bunkrooms.

We also offer private rooms at both facilities for couples, visiting families, and for hikers desiring peace, quiet and privacy.

Our rates are very hiker-friendly and we can usually accommodate pets. Reservations are recommended, but are not required.  For hikers staying at the Maine Roadhouse, we offer free shuttles into Stratton for resupply and runs to restaurants and so on.

If you are hiking with a cell phone and you'd like to call us before you reach the road crossing, we'll be happy to drive out and pick you up at the trailhead.  There is no charge for this for our guests.  We also provide free shuttles back to the trail for our guests.

If you anticipate reaching town over the weekend and you have a mail drop at the post office, call us and we'll try and help with it.

Feel free to have gear from manufacturers sent to us prior to your arrival so that it is waiting for you when you reach town.

Both Rangeley and Stratton are very "hiker friendly" towns and you will enjoy the warmth and hospitality of the people and businesses here in the Western Mountains of Maine!

See for yourself why so many hikers have promised to come back again and visit us at the Maine Roadhouse and the Stratton Motel.
